if i leave my heart with you tonight promise me that you're gonna treat it right. | "Come on..." she whispered to no one in particular, but rather to her car. It was one of those times that she wished she'd learned how to fix cars...or not to have the worst luck and have their car break down on them. Especially not in one particularly dark and sort of deserted street. Where are the people? she wondered silently as she tried the ignition once more by turning her keys. Sighing in frustration, Raine gave up and fiddled with her purse on the passenger seat to get her cellphone. She would have to call her brother to tell him that she'll be late. After all that's happened this past few months, they opted to get an apartment that is big enough for both of them. It is to protect themselves from intruding people, the press and of course...the sentinels. Sentinels...one word was enough to give her goosebumps. She was actually wondering why they still haven't come after them...it's been like...seven months? Seven months since their faces were plastered on the magazines and newspapers. And for once, she didn't like what was placed on them.
Usually, she would be the cover girl of a magazine or it would be an interview...same goes with her brother who had performances aired on television and articles about him as well. But this time, a huge red word was plastered all over their faces: MUTANTS!
And that was part of the reason why she wondered that both her and her twin is still roaming free right now. Not that she's not thankful for it. But it seemed like the calm before the storm. It was quiet...a little too quiet.
A sudden loud bang made her jump in her car, cursing as to why she had opened the window earlier, as it paved the way for the sound to be so loud. Her head snapped to the origin of the sound and she saw a cat rummaging through trash. Still feeling as if her heart jumped out of her lungs, Raine dialed her brother's phone.
Ring. Ring. Ring. A classical song came on as she waited for her twin to pick up. The line picked up and she smiled as she heard her twin's voice...but the smile vanished in an instant upon hearing the message. "Hey this is Casey, I'm currently busy right now so just leave a message after the beep". Ladyluck was definitely toyinG with her right now.
"Hey, its me. I'm gonna be late, my car broke down and I'll just hail a cab...if I can find one here. Don't wait up for me kay? Love you." Then she snapped her phone close. No need to tell him who she was, Casey would know it's her through her voice...or if not...through his caller id.
She took her purse and went out of her car, locking it and making sure she got all her valuables. She'll just tell Casey later and he'd prolly take care of it for her. He knew how much machines didn't work out for her. She looked from left to right and silently wished help would come. Shaking her head, she berated herself for thinking that a knight in shining armor would sweep her off her feet.
She was leaning on her car and completely caught off guard when amidst the darkness, a bright white light that is not like her own suddenly shone on her. Due to her mutation, she didn't even blink and what she saw only made her eyes pop like saucers.
MUTANT SIGNATURE DETECTED. SCANNING DATABASE... A metallic voice rang out in the deserted street as robots...commonly known as Sentinels touched down on the grown with their eyes that were like million megawatt lights shone on her. She didn't know as to what extent the database was for...but she knew they would find out that she didn't register. That only meant one thing...she's going to be taken. And Casey wouldn't know what happened to her!

Cassidy sat in the Blackbird as they soared over New York City. Rogue was piloting the ship. Cassidy and one other student were along with. It was one senior X-Men watching over two students on one of their first times out, or at least one of Cassidy’s. The boy, who she could only remember by his codename of Psyche, might have been out before. Codenames were something that took getting used to. She still called some of her friends by their real names during training sessions. Plus she needed to remember to respond to her own codename of Script. That was really a minor concern, though.
To be entirely honest, Cassidy had not expected to be sent out on a mission quite so early in her schooling at Xavier's. Yes, she wasn't exactly new, but 3 months wasn't exactly a lot of experience either. There was one positive side, completely unrelated to her current situation, in the fact that during those three months her cousin’s powers had not manifested. Someone might call it optimistic of her to believe this, but she knew for a fact that Cody was safe. She had asked Christian to keep an eye on him for her, so that they could get to Cody first when his powers did manifest. Nothing had happened, and she would hopefully know the moment something did happen if not before.
She looked down at her clothing. It was a temporary uniform until it was figured out what unique modifications her personal uniform would need. One thing she knew was that she would need some way of carrying her notebook and a writing utensil – or several – with her. Currently she was using a fanny pack. The concept worked, but the current, generic fanny pack was not as damage resistant as the uniforms of the senior X-Men.
She looked out the window and noticed the ship was going down, as in landing not crashing. Out her side she could see a sentinels and a girl who was clearly their target. Cassidy remembered how she had felt in that girl’s place, her own rescue by the X-Men having been only three months ago. It wasn’t a pleasant position to be in. She’d played damsel in distress that time, mostly because she hadn’t even realized she was a mutant. How much difference had her three months at the school for mutants made? Well… clearly she was about to find out.

Rogue powered down the engines as she made a smooth touch down with the Blackbird; so very different from the first time she got behind the controls of the super-sonic jet. She had been so petrified that even after her mini-crash landing, Storm had still had to pry her hands off the controls; it had definitely been one of the most nerve-wracking moments in her life. Considering the fact that she could now confidently piloting the Blackbird on her own, she had clearly come a long way since that day.
Releasing her seat belt, Rogue stood up and turned to face her team for this rescue mission. When Storm had called on her to head out on this mission she had expected Bobby or one of the other X-men to be joining her. She had led a couple missions before, nothing really major and even then she hadn't been the sole senior X-man on the team. This was definitely a first. Cassidy Blaine and Reid Mitchell; Script and Psyche. Rogue didn't have much experience with either of them but she had read through as much of their files as she could before they had to depart.
Script was relatively new to the Xavier Institute but had made great strides in her time there and had a rather unique power. Thought Projection through writing; from what Rogue could tell once she had a pen and something to write on, her only limit was her imagination. Psyche was a psychokinetic - telepathy combined with telekinesis was a potent mix; even if you had both separate abilities, it wasn't the same as having them combined into one ability. Psychokinesis had a reputation for being unstable and difficult to control though. Anna had also read that Psyche had to undergo intense physical therapy to rebuild his atrophied muscles after years of being in a coma.
'I wish he had been that lucky.' she thought, the incident with Cody momentarily coming to the forefront of her mind before she forced it back down. The mission was what was important now everything else could wait, her priority was to save that girl and get everyone back safely.
"Okay guys. Ready?" she asked, "Script I know that this is your first mission but you just have to remember your training and I'm sure you'll be fine. Storm wouldn't have sent you out unless she believed that you were ready and can handle it. Psyche I know you have some experience with missions so you're second in command, I'll be taking point. Psyche I am not too familiar with your abilities but if you can establish a telepathic link with Script and I that would be great. Your telepathy basically gives you an extra sense so if there is anything that Script or I don't notice that poses a potential threat, you can be our early warning system. However, at least initially I would like you to focus on the girl, her name is Raine Dolsen. Let her know that we're here to help, it'd only complicate manners if she sees us as another threat. I will be going after the Sentinels and will be the distraction you two will need to get to Raine and get her on the jet - that is the primary objective, use your powers however you can to achieve it. We'll have to take out the Sentinels so they can't follow us back but first we secure Raine. Everyone clear?" she asked, punching the button to open the back of the Blackbird for them to exit, "If so, let's go."

if i leave my heart with you tonight promise me that you're gonna treat it right. | She screamed knowing full well the repercussions of everything that was about to happen. If she was caught, she didn't know what would happen to her. And she was worried...really worried at that. Because she knew that Casey would do everything...turn every single rock in the world just to find her. And she was scared for him. She knew the dangers that Casey would go through to save her, he would sell his soul to the devil if need be just to succeed. And that was what she feared.
She didn't have any training, she didn't even think that this time would come to her. Or...she did but she never thought that it would be now. Of all times when she was not with her strongest chance to survive. The bond that she had with Casey acted not only as a charm but at times of dire need, it was a lethal weapon that is to be reckoned with.
On instinct, her hand went up and bright bluish lights formed on her hands making sure to use the highest concentration of her power. Stars were said to have different colors...even flames were color coded too. And the hottest of them is blue. Her eyes turned bright golden yellow as she used her powers to the highest extent and looked back at the monstrous figures surrounding her. She had to act fast and a few seconds is all she needed.
Her and shot up in an instant and bright bluish specks of light much resembling of tiny stars formed in her hands and with a flick millions of lights sprayed from her hands. The tiny glowing orbs sprayed towards the heads of the gigantic robots.
At a glance, her lights didn't look that menacing...it only posed as a threat to the eyes as ordinary humans aren't able to look directly at her powers. They were blinding, moreso than bright lights created by humans. But it took a while before the large bimbos to see the effects of her power. It could've been the fact that she was an unregistered mutant, therefore they didn't think she possessed that kind of power. Or it could also be that the make up of the large robots had some sort of protection from heat. Or maybe because she has never tried to use this kind of heat before so it wasn't as potent as she thought it was. Either or all of them, she didn't care.
A few seconds of silence and she had the guile to smile as what would appear as their heads started to melt. It was the time she needed to flee, cursing she was wearing high heels, she tried her hardest to run as far as she could. But she only got a few steps away when one of the crushing hands of the robots went down.
It seemed to miss as it crushed the garbage pile beside her. She screamed and tripped on the impact. She turned over and screamed as the gigantic hand went up again to crush her minute form. Her eyes closed and she uttered the only word she could think of. "Casey..." She was sure that Casey would feel uneasy...it was the twin connection that they had that gave them an instinct if the other was in danger. Right now, she could only think of her twin.

His head shot up the moment Anna’s thought took form. He stared at her for all of a second before he turned his gaze back out the window. They wanted to test him. That is why he was sitting there in the back row, his gaze thrown out the window he chose to sit by while wearing an outfit that made tight-leather look a smidgen less uncomfortable…still, he had to admit, he looked like a fricken super hero in the get-up…not that he was planning on keeping it. A t-shirt, jeans and boots and he would be set to go…he would like to go back to his room and kick back a bit. Still, they were testing him again…he was unsure why, but they were and he hadn’t any choice but to do the damn thing, score some major points with the team leader and with Storm and all should be right as rain…or so Reid hoped. Once more, he turned his attention from the view out there and looked at Rogue. They were being briefed on the situation – he got his orders, which were to establish a constant link between the three of them, contact the mutant out there and do whatever he could, in conjunction with Script, and get that mutant to safety while Rogue tackled the big, bad Sentinel…lovely.
"You doubt her ability to handle the Sentinel alone?"
Reid turned to the vacant aisle seat beside him and stared, for a moment, at the mental projection of Charles Xavier before glancing back at Rogue, nodded in response and understanding of his orders to ensure mission success. Unbuckling himself from his seat, he got up, pushed himself into a bit of a stretch, dropped a huge sigh and closed his eyes…focussed. His mind found Script’s and Rogue’s with ease enough, and the link he was asked to make was made. Now to test. Link has been made. He glanced from one to the next before turning and heading for the lowered ramp; the first to make exit. Then he heard it. Her scream. It stopped him for a bit, keeping him transfixed as he stared at the advancing Sentinels and then to the one they were after, the mutant he had to get to...now! He started forward, running as if he were in a sprint at the World Games, but he skidded to a stop and near tripped as he turned away from the light that near burned his eyes out. With his body turned away, unsure what was going on behind him…he felt it prudent to give in a report. 'Kay ladies, street is deserted and they’re quite a few of them out there…something just happened though, big flash that, hold on…it’s gone now.
Reid turned to see what had happened just a moment before, but whatever it was didn’t seem to matter when he watched as one of the Sentinel’s hands came down; narrowly missing the mutant as it dug a small trench in the street, and yes, he did notice that they were headless. So much for having your head in the game. Alright, here goes everything. Hey…hey – er – we’re here to help you, alright. We’re the good guys, the X-Men and we’re here to get you out of here…I promise, ok? He broadcasted to the mutant, hoping her nerves weren’t too shot, which meant the thought would either freak her out or she would ignore it and keep her eyes on the advancing big baddies who were gearing for a triple attack. Think that if we’re going to go on the offensive, it better be now. He thought to Rogue and Script while fighting the urge to charge in, save her and get the hell out of there.
"Simple matter of patience, Reid." Came the Professor from beside him…standing beside him.

There was a deep, abiding frustration with phones. He had planned on going out and surprising his sister out at her little party, since she'd mentioned multiple times that she didn't really want to go. The result? Casey, the genius pianist, had gotten beautifully, wonderfully lost. His cell phone had not given him the right directions - or perhaps he'd been reading them wrong. Either way, he'd never made it to the party, and he had been driving around long enough now that he had to stop for gas.
When he got back in the car, his phone was doing it's soft little chime, to indicate he had a message. While he jammed the keys in the ignition, he flicked it to speaker, and listened to the mini-message she'd left him.
"Oh... Raine, you goof." He smirked, a small smile running along his lips. He reached up and thumbed the OnStar button in his roof console. The receptionist woman answered quickly. "Hi, this is Casey. I was wondering if you could get the location of license plate..." He paused, trying to remember her digits, before rattling them off. It was on his policy, so it was no big deal finding it.
To his surprise, she was about three miles away from him.
"I guess I still get to surprise her." He carefully turned up the air-conditioning - it was always on, just in case - before pulling out. Casey drove about a mile, listening to some trash-rap simply to have background noise, when the pit of his stomach began to quake.
He knew that feeling. "Raine..."
Speed limits meant nothing to him. His little Jetta could pack quite the punch, as he slammed the pedal down, and shot off.
It took him maybe three more minutes to creep up on the scene - and what a scene it was. She was nowhere near her car - but that wasn't the scary part. The giants were definitely the scary part. Sentinels, the mutant-hunters, were here. After her.
After his sister.
He didn't see red. He saw black. When he threw the door open, it was like a torrent of black ink rushed out. A sea of darkness that had no right existing anywhere but the deepest reaches of space, reserved for the most terrifying parts of movies.
"RAINE!" He shouted, knowing full and well his darkness was eating away at the light around him, covering anything it touched in a light coating of frost. There was one scooping at someone...
It was her. He started running, and it was like he brought the deepest night with him. The thing reached for her, and he panicked as he realized he would not reach her in time.

Cassidy listened to Rogue's instructions. Working with Psyche, she was to get the new mutant, Raine, out of harm's way. After that she could help Rogue deal with the sentinels... if she could even get anything conjured fast enough to be of use for that. That was one of the biggest issues with her power at the moment. She couldn’t control things she conjured, couldn’t make sure they’d do what she wanted, unless she was super specific. She was already writing something out to try and help Raine, praying she’d at least get enough of it written that what she conjured would be close to what she wanted.
She was momentarily caught off guard when the psychic link between herself, Psyche, and Rogue was formed. Without realizing it, for a moment the other two could hear Cassidy’s thoughts as she wrote. It needs to be big enough to cover two people at least. Three would be great, but… After that was when she heard Psyche’s voice and stopped for a moment, partly because she hadn’t been prepared for that despite that she’d expected it. When she started writing again, she mentally did her best to keep what she was thinking to herself unless they needed to hear it.
Writing while moving… That was a skill she needed to work on. However, she got out of her seat and started moving towards Raine when Psyche started sprinting towards her, after Raine had screamed. She wasn’t doing as well though, her eyes flicking up and down as she tried to write. If she could reliably conjure what she wanted through a single word or something, this would be a whole lot easier… that would be something to work on for the future, though.
She shielded her eyes with her notebook when the bright flash of light came, only looking again when Psyche’s voice came through in her head. She didn’t have the time left to mess much more with what she was conjuring. She just had to pray it would work. Writing a few more words she focused on bringing it to life. Dark cloth pooled at her feet and she picked it up, throwing it over her…. And she vanished from sight. No one could see Cassidy running towards Raine, not even Raine herself. The one sentinel had just barely missed hitting Raine. There was barely any time to get to her. Psyche’s words reminded Cassidy that no one else even knew what she was doing, and she projected her thoughts to her two teammates via their mental link. I conjured an invisibility cloak. I’m going to try and get Raine under it with me and sneak her back to the ship. I’m almost there, so now would be a great time to distract the sentinels. If there wasn’t a flaw in her conjured cloak, this plan would probably work… probably.
She just had to hope though, because there wasn’t time to wait. The sentinel’s hand was rising again to strike Raine. Cassidy darted between Raine and the sentinel, the hand knocking into her instead. In one respect this was good. She’d heard from Bobby, Iceman, how his increased durability had caused the sentinel’s hand to rebound off him. She’d tried to recreate that durability in her cloak. The hand didn’t grab her, but it did knock her over. The only benefit to this was she landed pretty much on top of Raine, the other girl disappearing from view as Cassidy did. Under the cloak Raine and Cassidy would be able to see each other, but no one could see them. ”Hi. I’m Script. I’m with the X-Men, and I’m here to help you.”

Rogue had already started running towards the Sentinels by the time Psyche made the suggestion to go on the offensive before it was too late. She had taken off moments after she had established the link, even though it had been her suggestion and she had had similar experiences before it was disconcerting to feel someone else's consciousness rubbing up against her own. It wasn't the same as with the psychic echoes, those were insubstantial, what she was experiencing now was closer to what it felt like with Carol Danvers' psyche locked away in her mind and seemingly fighting to get out. Sadly, because she had taken off so soon, before Reid could finish assess, she got the full blast of whatever the light it was that formed around the Sentinel's head. The term 'blinding light' certainly took on a new meaning after that, even after she closed her eyes the light still registered as if it was strong enough to even penetrate her eyelids. Rogue imagined that was what a super nova would be like, especially since the temperature seemed to spontaneously jump a more than a few degrees soon after.
'Not just light.' she thought to the pair, as she tried to blink her vision back to normal as she was literally seeing stars at present. 'I think its generating heat too, like a solar flare. If it happens again, make sure that you're nowhere near. God only knows what it'll do to you if you're caught in it.' [/i] As soon as she could see clearly again, Rogue set out for the Sentinel again. She had planned to come up from behind and go for the weak spot at the back of its neck but the robot didn't seem to have a neck anymore. It's metal face had apparently melted and run down its body, there was no way to get through that molten mess, let alone discern the spot she wanted. Unfortunately, whoever had built these things had built them well and they were apparently still able to function without a head. 'Well that's just perfect. she thought, changing directions and heading for the gigantic, hand that was once again lowering towards the girl who screamed. "I conjured an invisibility cloak. I’m going to try and get Raine under it with me and sneak her back to the ship. I’m almost there, so now would be a great time to distract the sentinels." 'Great idea.' Rogue thought back, 'But I sort of have no idea where you are now either or which way you're heading with Raine so you're going to have to stay out of my way, okay? I'm engaging the Sentinel now!Once she was near enough Anna leapt into the air, she really preferred flying in a plane but these things were huge. She couldn't see Raine anymore and for one heart stopping moment thought that the metallic hand of the creature had crushed her. Then, she heard Script greeting the girl and explaining who they were. Rogue really hoped Raine believed her and listened. 'Get her back to the Blackbird now!Spinning in the air for added momentum, Rogue launched a kick at the Sentinel's chest. It was times like these that she actually appreciated the Super Strength that she had absorbed. Her kick made contact, the metal reverberating to produce a gong-like sound and the backlash of the blow traveled uncomfortably back up her leg but she still got to watch with satisfaction as the killer robot fell back and hit the ground with a resounding crash. "Raine!" She turned in the direction of the voice but saw nothing, just darkness. 'Did anyone else hear th...' Rogue didn't complete the thought because of the area she had been scanning for whoever was calling out for Raine; there had just been a dumpster there, she was sure of it, but now...nothing, nothing but darkness. She couldn't even make out the street anymore. Anna knew she couldn't possibly be seeing right but what seemed like a wall of...absolute black seemed to be approaching fast. 'Psyche is there anyone out there?' she asked, drifting backwards warily as she hung in the air. Rogue wasn't afraid of the dark, hadn't been since she was six years old but this...this was not natural. She couldn't help thinking that something was definitely off, even on the blackest of nights when you couldn't even see the stars it wasn't as dark as whatever this was. A thought that was confirmed when she realized that she could see her own breath as all the heat in the air seemed to vanish. 'Script, what's your status?'[/size][/blockquote]

if i leave my heart with you tonight promise me that you're gonna treat it right. | She became a bit confused as the hand that was about to squish her as a mosquito rebounded off of something. But she didn't have any more time to ponder how it happened when her life was in danger. To defend herself, all she needed to do was fry it's arms...or it's legs. She needed to decide...and fast. The feet...if she incapacitated the legs then her attacker would be slowed down. But before she was able to use her powers, she heard someone inside her head.
"Hey…hey – er – we’re here to help you, alright. We’re the good guys, the X-Men and we’re here to get you out of here…I promise, ok?"
X-men? She's heard of them before. The do gooders...the one who stopped the battle at Alcatraz. And now they were saving her. She didn't know if the voice will be able to hear her...but she made a silent plea. Help me...please... that was all she could think of,"Oomph!" She got out as a figure emerged out of nowhere and practically got sprawled all over her.
The other person introduced herself as part of the X-men. Definitely not the voice she heard in her head but good enough. She was just too shocked right now to answer properly. What with the threat on her life and all. And it amazed her how the girl seemed to appear out of nowhere...maybe she had the power of invisibility...yeah that would definitely work. She hoped that her power could make both of them invisible.
A huge metallic sound made her gasp and turn back on the sentinel that was after them. She was surprised to see another girl...who must be just around her age fighting the huge robot...mano y mano. And from what she can see...the girl packed quite a punch.
She was about to feel relieved when she heard a familiar voice somewhere. RAINE! There was no mistaking it. Her heart skipped a beat as she turned around in the sound of the voice. "NO CASEY! RUN!" she screamed back, fearing for the life of her twin. Upon instinct, she pushed herself up and got away from the other X-men's grip. "I'm sorry, but my twin needs me..." She answered and ran towards Casey.
The other two sentinels were already advancing. Ironic that they didn't act earlier before. They must've thought they could deal with them with only one sentinel. They didn't count that the X-men and her twin would arrive. Upon realizing that, they finally decided to join in the onslaught. She ran as fast as she could, feeling the time slow down as she met her twin...
Then she tripped and fell on her face.
Of all the times that her clumsiness had to trigger...it had to be now. She tried getting up but to no avail, she must've twisted her foot. "Casey!" She screamed and she knew that Casey would understand what she meant. They've already had plans if ever this thing happened. She would use her blinding light...then let her brother's power engulf everything in darkness. No amount of night vision or thermal sensors will work on her twin's darkness.
She turned around and hoped that everyone heard her scream. "Cover your eyes!" She flicked her hands upward and let millions of dazzling light escape her hands. The light was so blinding that it was more potent than a flash grenade. Hoping that the voice who spoke to her would hear her, she tried her best to talk back to the voice. "Can you hear me? Link with my twin's mind...he will be able to see in the dark because of his powers. He'll serve as your eyes. I can't use my powers in the darkness because they'll see us. Hurry!" She answered as she waited for the light to die down. All the while being able to see completely and clearly in the bright light. She waited for a few seconds before darkness engulfed them all.

Cassidy had been getting herself up, about to help Raine escape to the Blackbird. Then she heard the voice calling Raine’s name, and clearly the girl knew who it was. Raine pulled herself out of Cassidy’s grasp, slipped out from under the cloak, and started running toward… a wall of complete blackness. Not even a small amount of light was visible beyond the point where it started. Without even thinking, Cassidy started after the girl, the cloak slipping most of the way off her before she could remember to grab it. ”Raine! Wait! To Psyche and Rogue she projected. I think that wall of darkness is being made by another mutant. Riane said something about a twin… the voice sounded male, so twin brother? I couldn’t stop her from trying to help him. Not that she needed to say that last part. It was completely obvious.
This wasn’t going well. One mutant to save was turning out difficult enough, and now they had two. On top of that both of them at least somewhat knew how to use their powers. They were fighting too, and that made the task Cassidy and Psyche had been given more difficult. But Cassidy didn’t have long to think about that.
”Cover your eyes!” The voice belonged to Raine, and Cassidy had just enough time to follow the instruction before the flash of light. Only when she started to feel cold did she look… or she thought she had. She couldn’t see a thing, the darkness having engulfed them all. She stood there, unsure what to do. Not that she really could do anything. She couldn't even see to use her power. Rogue? Psyche? Are you there?

His fist went through and through, the kinetic force behind the punch severing the mechanical ligands in one of the other Sentinel’s legs; causing the oversized can-opener to tilt and drop was a force of its own that caused a bit of a tremor. Yeah, the bastard was down, but he wasn’t out yet and Reid was ready to run in and throw another punch at its face but he held back. External thoughts, someone’s erratic, frantic thoughts entered the immediate environment and that someone just screamed out the name of the mutant they were to rescue…but there was more, and it was strange. “Something’s happening. Someone else is here…a ‘friendly’ but he’s not exactly helping the cause.” Reid thought to Rogue and Script as he backed away from the downed Sentinel that was reaching for him; keeping his eye on another that took immediate interest in him and then there was that darkness that was racing for them all, along with the new mutant who had brought it with him. He made to yell for the guy to get the hell away from here, but it was pointless because the people he was running to were no longer there – gone! And the Sentinel that was attacking them…well, he just ran into its line of attack…and that was not the worst of it!
Hell must have surfaced, because he, Rogue and Script were now blind in a black void, blind to Sentinels who could still detect them and attack without caution. Reid stood perfectly still, his thoughts fixated on every mind in that street, trying to pick through the bit of panic that was stirring but he had to put a hold on that when everyone was warned to watch their eyes. Remembering the last time, he put his hand over his and waited…and then came a burst of light that forced him to better cover his eyes because the bit that filtered through the small gaps burned like hell! When that was over, he lowered his hand and went back to picking through thoughts – and from it all, he got Script’s verification that it was a mutant who was doing this, good but he later picked up a message that was intended for him. The female, Raine, she was asking him to form a link with the new guy who had just turned the tables on the good guys. Accidental? Yeah, sure, but it would not matter if they got their asses torched or apprehended for something much worse. “Yeah sure, but I suggest you get a grip on your brother before this becomes our last mission, no offence to him, but I’d prefer to use my own eyes.” Not guided like sheep. He made the link.
It felt beyond disconcerting having to stand there in darkness like a fool waiting for his bus on the wrong side of the road. His fists were clenched, his teeth were gritted and his impatience was soaring. This mission was supposed to be straight forward. Get in, save the girl, get the hell out and drop her off at home. Nah, had to involve a squadron of giant, killer robot Sentinels, a mutant who was trying to burn out his eyes and another mutant who was trying to get him killed while blind. He was freaking out here, he was freaking out and he was prepared to do something brazen but effective if it meant living to fight another day…scratch that, living to just see another day.
“Reid!” Warned the Professor, his tone enough to put a cover on his boiling pot.
“Yeah Script, I’m here.” Reid thought to his teammate; totally ignoring the Professor that he could see clear as day; standing right in front of him. “Script…as soon as the light bill gets paid, get to those two. I…am going to launch you three over to the Blackbird; gonna have to do some fancy drawing to get yourself a safe landing…because I think the Sentinels have locked onto us.” Was he sure? No…but would you risk being patient and waiting it out?
